Brief Description
The Nigerian Air Force is a crucial component of the country’s air-focused military. It was formally established in January 1964 with technical assistance from West Germany. Initially, the Nigerian Air Force functioned as a transport unit, with aircrews being trained in countries such as Canada, Ethiopia, and Pakistan. It did not acquire combat capabilities until 1966 when it received several Mig-17 aircraft from the Soviet Union. Today, the Nigerian Air Force operates a variety of aircraft, including transport, trainer, helicopter, and fighter planes.
